Support Young Heroes

MTN BUSHFIRE’s “Call to Action” creates a platform for the growth and development of the arts, highlights and raises funds for pressing social concerns.  Our beneficiaries are recognized, transparent, professionally run organizations with what we believe are vital social missions. Please take some time to read about what they do and consider contributing to their causes!

Our main beneficiary is Young Heroes

Young Heroes  has received over ZAR 1,000,000 from Bushfire and its partners since inception. This funding helps provide food, clothing and warm blankets for winter as well as additional fees for school requirements (not covered by government aid schemes), medicine and other basic needs to over 1,000 children. Most importantly, this support helps the children feel secure in the knowledge that society cares about them and is involved in their lives.

Young Heroes works to help the orphans and vulnerable children of Swaziland survive and thrive. They address the issues of HIV/AIDS and poverty by providing them with food security; educational support; healthcare and HIV prevention programs; and programs that foster gender and economic empowerment, so they may flourish and grow successfully into self-sufficient adulthood.

  Young Heroes projects include:

Food and clothing sponsorships (family focused)

Education bursaries for children in high school level

Health Care

Family counseling

Individual HIV counseling, training and testing:  Young Heroes has trained 149 caretakers and reached 661 children living with HIV.

Medical screening for sick children and caretakers

Referrals to hospital for the sick and payment for hospital fees

Ongoing support for HIV-negative children

Referrals to Baylor clinics and hospitals for HIV positive children and caretakers for CD4 count, pre ART care and enrolment into ART

Monthly transport fees for families caring for HIV positive children

Camps for HIV positive children

Referral to Baylor’s Teen Clubs for follow-up support

Business and skills training for orphans before the age out of the program

All operations and administrative costs are underwritten by NERCHA, meaning 100% of the donations received go directly to its programs serving the orphans. The organization was independently presented to UNICEF’S Global Orphan Alliance as a best practice which other countries should adopt.
